The Underdog
The Underdog
The Underdog. This design was created for those who have been through hell and back. The ones who have surpassed every battle sent their way, not unscathed but still standing.
The elements in this inlay contain soil from the place Goliath and the Philistines came from, representing the daunting challenges we face in life and the new challenges that will arise.
Soil from where David and his army of Israelites came from represents the strength to take on any challenge, no matter how impossible it may seem.
Next is soil from the actual place where David defeated Goliath in Khirbet Qeyafa. It stands for the battles we have won together.
This design also contains sand from the exact spot Jesus was baptized on the Jordan River, representing a fresh start, leaving the past behind but never forgetting where you came from.
The last soil in this design is soil from the garden tomb where Jesus rose again. Philippians 4:23 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This represents that with God in our lives, all things are possible.
Now, the wood in this is ironwood. Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." Together, we grow and make each other stronger.
Gold is mixed in with the mixed soil to represent our king on the throne and our goal of achieving the best version of ourselves.
Lastly, antler. As the antler grows and hardens, it can also be tattered and broken, but each year, the antler is presented with an opportunity to grow new and pure. Like a relationship, we develop scars and battles against one another, but with forgiveness and understanding, we wipe the slate clean.
This design is meant for the ones who weren't meant to make it—the people with the odds stacked against them. Be it a relationship that defied the odds, a cancer diagnosis that one defeated, an addiction that tried to take us down, or the Dad with the weight of the world on his shoulders who still finds the strength each day to smile and battle on. The underdog is the perfect design for warriors.
